Since October 2017, six students from the University of Portsmouth have been working with Incendo for their Business Consultancy Project (BCP), which is the main part of a 20 credit Unit at Level 6, involving 200 hours of learning per student over the academic year. The Unit involves small teams of students from a variety of business studies courses, learning and working as consultants on projects with organisations in Hampshire for around six months.
The students working with Incendo have formed a consultancy team that they’ve called Dice Consultancy; so far in their work with Incendo, they have developed their teamworking and project management skills, and applied business skills from their degree studies. The BCP places a strong emphasis on learning in diverse teams, with a wide variety of personalities and cultures – indeed the Dice Consultancy team is truly international with students from the UK, Italy, Spain, China, Egypt and India. The students are working with Incendo to explore the feasibility of a particular learning and development offering, which for now we’re keeping under wraps (all will be revealed in Spring 2018!).

Feedback shows that students greatly value the freedom to be self-directed and work with external clients such as Incendo. The experiential approach, commonly known as ‘learning by doing’, allows student teams to gain experience of working co-operatively and constructively in a real world setting beyond the University. The BCP culminates in a final presentation to Incendo in early March 2018 and the academic Unit ends with submission of the team report coursework, and after the Easter break, the individual report coursework.
I’m delighted that Dice Consultancy have chosen to work with Incendo and I would like to extend my gratitude to Youssef, Jian, Aryan, Denise, Izaak and Fernanda for the work they have undertaken so far. I’m confident that their project will strengthen our brand here at Incendo and enable us to explore options that should demonstrate Incendo’s credibility in the Learning & Development field, and ultimately lead to business growth.
