No. 7 They slow down when reading and truly take in the content.
Mindful people who continue their practise while reading often notice that it generates inner peace, it can even put them in touch with the core of their being. This leads to a more grounded or centred state. When reading mindfully, the mind becomes much more focussed. The concentration that arises makes it natural to take in or assimilate what they read, so mindfulness can be a powerful tool for anyone who is studying. To read mindfully suggests that mindful people are doing two things at the same time, they read and they are mindful. Typically, we would read and think – take a moment now to contemplate the difference. It’s also possible to be mindful while thinking. For example, you can pause from reading for a moment and reflect on what you’ve just read. At the same time as you think, you carry on giving relaxed attention to your book.
