No. 2 They laugh at themselves.
People who practise mindfulness always report having an increased sense of humour – it’s one of the cool things about being mindful that can also be a pleasant surprise. Our minds already have a natural tendency to fantasise and daydream, and this is often boosted by mindfulness meditation; this, in turn, leads us to notice things about ourselves, about our actions and about our reactions. Rather than being critical or judgemental, very often this noticing enables us to observe the lighter side of life. Many people who practise mindfulness enjoy being gently fascinated by their own foibles and quirkiness! When we’re willing to laugh at ourselves and our human condition, our happiness can be dramatically increased.
