Let’s be honest – parenting isn’t always easy. Although it’s often amazing and rewarding to watch your children grow, and to help them learn to be independent, it can also be really hard work. Many parents feel somewhat burned out for a whole host of reasons and if that includes you, the chances are that at some point someone has suggested you try mindfulness.
It seems that everyone is into mindfulness and its ability to transform you and your family’s lives. But where do you start? There are so many books, podcasts and apps out there; it can all be a bit confusing and intimidating. In our unique ‘Mindful Parent, Resilient Child‘ programme, Incendo’s founder and principal consultant, Justin Standfield, blends elements of traditional Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with psychology to support you in being a more mindful parent (and through you, to plant seeds of mindfulness practice in your children).
Whether you’d describe yourself as a seasoned parent or you’re just starting out in family life, the fail-safe best practices shared in this programme will help put you in charge of your mind, attention and thoughts. Combined with some straightforward Positive Psychology approaches that you can apply at home, this will in turn build the resilience and confidence your children deserve.

The programme provides essential step-by-step strategies to build the emotional scaffolding that every child needs in order to become resilient. All of this is offered within the context of you developing your own mindfulness practice, which will support you in your role as a parent while also learning to take some quality time for yourself.
What’s in it for you?
The mindfulness training aspects of the ‘Mindful Parent, Resilient Child’ programme will teach you to be more present and to perceive the world more realistically; as a result, you will view situations more objectively. This will allow you to react to situations with greater intention, as you can respond based on a dispassionate evaluation of the issue at hand, instead of based on preconceived notions or knee-jerk emotional reactions. When and where does this programme run?
This programme is offered in two ways:
- an ‘in house’ programme within an organisation as part of their employee wellbeing offering; or
- an ‘open’ programme available to the public

If you’re interested in joining a public ‘open’ programme, the next ‘Mindful Parent, Resilient Child’ programme will commence in late June 2018 and will run for 8 weeks on a weekday evening at a venue in either Whiteley or the Meon Valley area, depending on demand. There is no requirement to attend every session (although that would be great!), so you can relax about having to commit to a block of time when your life is already busy and you aren’t sure if you can join us every week.
